The Dental Exam
Your dentist is the doctor of your mouth. In conjunction with self-care and a healthy lifestyle, a regular dental examination is a critical component to maintain good dental health.
Through regular dental exams, your dentist can:
Identify changes in your mouth
Diagnose and address minor issues before they become larger problems
Guide you on ways to prevent dental disease
Answer any questions and concerns you may have about your dental health
Treat any condition that may arise, or refer you to the necessary specialist
More Information:
Your dentist is your partner in oral health. Be aware of your dental health and always speak to your dentist if you are experiencing any problems such as:
Toothache – Tooth pain that may be sharp, throbbing, or constant. In some people, pain results only when pressure is applied to the tooth. Always see your dentist when you have tooth pain. Causes may include tooth decay, infected gums or repetitive motions.
Sensitivity - Sharp and or sudden tooth pain in one or more teeth that is triggered by hot, cold, sweet or sour foods and drinks, or even by breathing cold air. Causes may include cracked teeth, tooth whitening products, plaque build-up or acidic foods.
Tooth discoloration – Yellowing or darkening of the tooth. There are several reasons why teeth may darken, including smoking, medications, genetics or inadequate brushing and flossing.
Bad breath (Halitosis) – can result from poor oral hygiene habits but may be a sign of other health problems.
Dry mouth is a common problem, particularly among older adults, and has many causes including dehydration.
