Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the specialty involving the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. Orthodontists have extensive experience in the design, application, and control of corrective appliances (i.e. braces) to bring teeth, lips and jaws into proper alignment and achieve facial balance. They are experts in analyzing the many factors that influence the outcome of orthodontic treatment; this includes such diverse subjects as genetics, embryology, biophysics, as well as human growth and development. They work with the person or family to determine the optimal time to start treatment as well as the benefits of the various treatment options.

Orthodontists specialize in not only straightening teeth but also correcting more complex bite discrepancies such as over- or under- bites, developmental malformations, and cross-bites to name a few.
